False Teeth Perth

Are you thinking about getting false teeth? At Belmont Dental Surgery, we offer high-quality, affordable options for every need. We understand how frustrating it can be to struggle with chewing, speaking, and not having the confidence to smile. That’s why we’re here to help you get the perfect set of dentures for your unique needs. Regain the power of your smile!

What Are False Teeth?

False teeth, also known as fake teeth or dentures, are prosthetic replacements for missing teeth. Depending on your specific needs, they can be removable or fixed dentures.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve lost a single tooth, multiple teeth, or all your natural teeth. False teeth are customised to your mouth shape, which improves your facial appearance. If you’ve lost a lot of teeth, false teeth can prevent your face from sagging or appearing sunken.

They will not only make you feel more confident, but replacing missing teeth can also help reduce gum disease and tooth decay. False teeth make it easier for you to chew your food normally, which is important for effective digestion, nutrient absorption, and overall oral and digestive health.

What Are the Different Types of False Teeth?

There are various options for false teeth, or dentures, to suit different preferences. The type of dental prosthetics you get will depend on your individual dental health needs. We’ve summarised the most common options below.

Implant Supported Dentures

For implant supported dentures, 4 implant screws are surgically inserted across the jawbone. As the jawbone heals, it fuses (osseointegrates) with the screws. Once this process is finished (within 3 to 6 months), abutments, locators, and the implant supported denture are placed on top of the screws to complete the implant treatment. This provides a lifelong solution to tooth loss. Once placed, they’ll look and feel like your real teeth and you will still be able to remove them at will.

Premium Dentures

Premium dentures are crafted specifically for you. This personalised approach will often closely resemble your remaining teeth or the ones being replaced, which ensures a natural fit and appearance that complements your unique oral anatomy and structure.

The customised fit provides a natural suction, so you won’t need denture adhesives to prevent the teeth from slipping out when you talk or chew food.

Partial Dentures

A partial denture replaces one or more missing teeth by hooking onto your remaining healthy teeth. It can be made using acrylic or our more premium material chrome.

Partial dentures can prevent gaps in your teeth, as they support your remaining teeth in their natural position. They will also restore your ability to chew, speak, and smile confidently.

Basic Dentures

Basic dentures can replace a full arch or partial set of missing teeth, offering patients the ability to chew, speak, and smile with confidence. While adjustments and periodic replacements may be necessary over time due to changes in the jawbone and natural wear, basic dentures remain a popular choice for individuals seeking a quick and cost-effective solution for tooth loss.

What Can You Expect When Getting False Teeth?

While the finer details of your procedure will be individualised, the primary process will follow these steps:

Initial Consultation

You’ll meet your dentist for an initial assessment to determine your needs. Here, your dentist will determine what kind of false teeth you need and measure your mouth if you need customised treatment.

Treatment Plan

Depending on your specific anatomy, your dentist may request x-rays or a 3D scan (CBCT) to help plan your new set of teeth. They will then discuss a treatment plan and options for false teeth with you. You may also have an impression of your mouth taken at this stage.

Preparation of Teeth

Each set of fake teeth is “made-to-order”, meaning there is no one-size-fits-all approach. The type of material they are made from will also add to the overall preparation time.

Placement of False Teeth

Once your new teeth are ready, your dentist will ensure a comfortable fit. If you’ve opted for implant supported dentures, the process for implant placement through to completion of treatment will be different. Find out more on implant supported denture treatment here.

How Much Do False Teeth Cost?

False teeth start at $600 for partial dentures and go up to around $15,000 for implant supported dentures (per jaw). The total price will depend on the number of replacement teeth, the type of artificial teeth you choose, the material your false teeth are made of, and the complexity of the whole process.

Who Should Get False Teeth?

False teeth are an option for anyone missing single or multiple teeth, provided their jawbone and gums are still healthy. You might also consider getting false teeth if you have loose or damaged teeth or if your dentures no longer comfortably fit you.

How Long Do False Teeth Last?

Dentures can last for 5 to 10 years, while dental implants can last up to 20 years or more with proper care and maintenance. False teeth (a.k.a. dentures) can last for 5 to 10 years, whereas dental implants can last up to 20 years or more with proper care and maintenance.

How to Maintain Your False Teeth

Taking care of your false teeth is crucial for extending their lifespan and maintaining good oral health. Here’s how:

  • Brush them daily: Just like your natural teeth, brush your false ones twice daily with a soft-bristled brush and fluoride toothpaste.
  • Keep your mouth clean: Use an alcohol-free mouthwash regularly. Wash your mouth thoroughly after removing your dentures.
  • Soak them overnight: If you have removable dentures, soak them overnight in a glass of water or a soaking solution (recommended by your dentist). They must stay moist to maintain their shape.
  • Rinse dentures after eating: Run water over your dentures after meals to remove any food debris and keep them clean.
  • Regular dental check-ups: Regular visits to the dentist are essential to help maintain the quality of your dentures as well as perform regular checks on your oral health to prevent any underlying issues in the mouth being missed (yes, even without your natural teeth!). For implant-supported dentures, professional cleaning will also help to extend their lifespan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you wear false teeth all the time?

Yes, you can wear fake teeth all the time, but you should take them out overnight. This helps prevent oral issues caused by wearing them for too long and can also reduce wear and tear on the dentures, especially if you grind your teeth at night.

How painful are fake teeth?

Fake teeth installations are relatively painless, although you may feel some discomfort as your mouth gets used to your new teeth. If you opt for dental implants, the procedure is done with local anaesthetic, and post-op pain is easily managed with over-the-counter pain medication.

How long does it take to get false teeth?

Getting false teeth (dentures) typically takes 1-2 weeks. In contrast, implant supported dentures can take 4 to 6 months, particularly if you need bone grafting before your implants are placed.
