Rivervale is an inner eastern suburb of Perth, Western Australia. It is near the Swan River, 5 kilometres from the Perth central business district, and within the City of Belmont. Rivervale, WA was known as Barndon Hill until 1884.

Life in Rivervale
Rivervale’s family-friendly lifestyle is an appealing feature of the inner-city suburb. There are numerous parks and ovals, such as Wilson Park, which features a number of netball courts open for public use, as well as a playground and community centre.
The Kooyong Road Shopping Strip features a large IGA, chemist, butcher, post office, take away food outlets, with the Belmont Forum the closest shopping centre. There are two local schools in Rivervale including St Augustine’s Primary School and Rivervale Primary School. Many homes in the suburbs are also catered for by the nearby suburbs schools such as Carlisle and Lathlain.
Schools
St. Augustine’s Catholic Primary School and Tranby Primary School are the only schools located within Rivervale. However, as the suburb is a part of the City of Belmont, there are a number of different primary and secondary schools that are located nearby. Belmont City College is only 3.5km away and will only take about 23 minutes to take the bus to school.
The suburb also has easy access to Universities that are located nearby. With ECU Mt Lawley only 9.5km away and Curtin University only 7.5 km away travelling to study is a breeze.
Transport
As Rivervale is located close to Perth CBD and the swan river, it benefits from having easy access to public transport. There are plenty of buses running, meaning that it could take less than 30 minutes to get from your house to Belmont shopping centre. As well as public transport, Rivervale is also located near Great Eastern Highway, Orrong road, and the Graham Farmer freeway. Travelling from your house towards or away from the city is a simple task with these main roads nearby.
Shopping
As Rivervale is a part of the city of Belmont, Belmont forum is located nearby, with easy access via Public Transport and Abernethy road. This shopping center caters for all of your shopping needs, with there being large supermarkets as well as smaller fresh food markets to choose from. Belmont forum also has department stores and various clothing, jewelers, and cafes.
There are also corner delis and small chain supermarkets nearby if you need to pick up that last ingredient for dinner.

Moved into area 5yrs ago – best decision I have made. Most underrated suburb 5 kms from Perth CBD. Bus service always available, cheap Uber to city | Optus stadium ride your bike| walk along swan river. Vic park or Belmont short drive for shopping . Friendly neighbourhood with plenty of dog parks and great takeaways. We have had zero crime issues as with any suburb you look out for problems and report . Belmont city council are 10/10 for community support. Home west homes in area have been sold to young couples who have renovated and now are the future of this community.

We are a family with two young children living in the top end of Rivervale (close to Great Eastern Hwy).
We love living in Rivervale for its convenience to most places. It is close to major roads, airport, the river, restaurants and plenty of shops. The only downside with the location is it’s not near a beach.

We love living in Rivervale! We are a professional couple with 3 small kids and have live here for nearly 10 years. The council is absolutely wonderful, huge upgrades to forum and streets, security etc. Schools are good too and very friendly lovely neighbours! We always feel safe here. We live in the “top end “ between franscisco, orrong and great eastern hwy. We can walk easily to the stadium, Blasta brewery and it’s only a short ride/cheap uber to the city – and we are always going away from traffic!
